A Zoom Presentation to Remember
I have never done a journal club before, though I imagine my UROP would make me do one sooner or later. I was pleasantly surprised by how much better I understood the paper after dissecting it part by part, and how much I enjoyed it after understanding it. The actual presenting portion came easily after selecting the important figures and making the powerpoint.
Funnily enough, the paper I selected was on the same research my brother worked on in 2015. Though his lab did not publish this paper, they were likely cited as a reference (I would have to ask him to look into it). It was a strange, but happy coincidence. I feel like I now know a little bit more about my brother's lab journey.
I'm not sure if the Zoom format was more or less frightening than a public presentation. I think both formats warrant practice and have their merits, and I hope I can do a public journal club in the near future. The first is always the hardest, and "everything is hard until it is easy" (Bill Loris).
