Adjusting, Enjoying, Working, Learning, Zooming (+ Dog Photo)

Hey Everyone!

I hope you are all well and are (slowly) becoming acclimated to the new normal. It’s been a strange experience, to say the least. I thought it would be a lot easier; being at home eliminated time spent walking to and from classes and extracurricular meetings I was required to attend. I thought I would have more free time than I knew what to do with, but this turned out to be far from the truth. The “free extra week” we got after the virus announcement seemed to equate to professors shoving all the work from that week into the week we returned. I know most professors are doing their best to be accommodating, but slightly more work from each class has left me with a feeling of being perpetually behind. As someone who likes to get work done early, this stresses me out to the max.

The Data Summary is officially done and is one weight off my shoulders. I thought the assignment was quite beneficial in introducing scientific writing and structure. I was able to focus on how to best present data in a concise format with the bullet points. The Research Article is coming up quicker than I thought, but at least I now have a general knowledge of how to format figures and results that was a large learning curve initially.

I think the thing I miss the most about being at school is my routine, and being able to go to the gym every day. I have learned that doing CrossFit workouts with limited equipment in your combined gym/office/kitchen/classroom does not have the same effect as going to the box and throwing around a barbell to relieve your stresses of the day. Regardless, I am building a new routine and the past few weeks I have done things I love and don’t have the opportunity to do at school.

Here are some highlights:
  • Walking my almost 12-year-old dog, Scarlet, numerous times a day (as I write this she is laying at the bottom of the stairs and crying for my mom and me to take her on another)
  • Getting croissants, scones, and danishes from my favorite bakery in my town, Sift (the owner won season 2 of Best Baker in America; if you ever find yourself in Mystic, CT (post-virus) I highly recommend going)
  • Playing board games and catching up on some new movies with my parents
  • Eating delicious home-cooked food that Maseeh D could never compete with
  • Going to the beach and working on my photography
  • Luckily, my favorite sport that I compete in at home and at school, skeet/trap/sporting clays shooting, is much more accessible here than at school, so I have been able to go shoot a few times
  • Doing virtual Zumba (which I have coined “Zoom-ba”) with my mom a few times a week
  • Being the full-time family hairdresser (I've held this role for years but it has become recently more prevalent)
  • Drinking coffee literally whenever I want

See you all in virtual class in the remaining weeks!

P.S. Following Kevin's model, I included a slightly click-baity title, as I would most certainly read any article if it included a dog photo, but as promised, here it is.
