Finding the Positives

Hellooo

I just want to start by saying I told you so. When the professors asked us on the first day of lab "What time would you get up on Saturday if you had nothing to do?", I said something like, "9 am but I would stay in bed all day". In fact, I did this every single day for two weeks when I first got home. My body forgot how to be vertical… But I read a lot of books I've been wanting to read, did some art, started writing a new book, listened to music, binged Itaewon Class, and spent endless hours on my phone (oops).

After all of that, classes started and I found that I can't focus at home. I have no clue how I did it in high school hahah. I miss my friends and clubs. I miss my kitchen in Burton Conner (RIP) and being able to eat what and when I want. Classes feel disconnected from what was going on during school. In general, things are just a little messy.

That's why it felt nice to wrap up the Data Summary during this first week of online classes; it was something familiar when everything else is different. Having specific comments to act on and creating a final project gave a me sense of accomplishment. One of the major takeaways I got from this project was how to make figures. I never had to do this before so I got a ton of corrections on our initial figure making homework assignments. I tried pretty hard to incorporate the changes and keep them in mind during future assignments, so it was nice when one of the comments on our first draft was "You have real talent in figure design". It's reassuring to remember that there are non-wetlab skills like this that I can gain from this class now that it's virtual. Hopefully R can be the next thing I improve in! (RIP to the ENTIRE day I spent debugging one section of code for exercise 3)

I hope everyone else is adjusting well,
Erinn
