Mod 2 in Zoom University
Mod 2 was definitely a bit of a logistical struggle as everyone gets fully familiar with working from home. I just recently changed my quarantine location to California, and correlating pacific time with due dates turned out to be more difficult than I thought it would. 8 am lecture on Tuesdays and Thursdays takes some getting used to, but I'm definitely adapting quickly to my environment.
Reflecting on the journal club presentations, I'm glad that we did this assignment before writing our actual research papers because I felt like when I was reading the paper, I was getting good tips on structuring my research to convey a message most effectively. It was also one of the first times that I really had to analyze large figures with graphs and schematics within it, which was definitely a challenge but rewarding to see how researchers handle copious amounts of data. Presenting to my computer felt a bit weird especially after having practiced the presentation in front of other people, but it was beneficial because not many people can present for 10 minutes straight without making a few mistakes. I also think that allowing myself to start over and correct my mistakes made me much more confident in what data I was presenting and the implications that came from the results. Reading through a paper and understanding it is one thing, but to have to present on the topic and be ready for questions on it definitely reaches a deeper level of understanding of the science behind the figures and the information presented.
